What a Trigger Depth Actually Controls

A snow removal trigger depth is not simply a recommendation about when a parking lot looks snowy enough to plow. In a commercial agreement, it can determine when crews are dispatched, how often a property is serviced, what the contractor must monitor, and ultimately how much the client pays during the season.

A lower trigger generally creates more service events. A higher trigger can reduce routine visits but allows more snow to accumulate before mechanical clearing begins.

Neither approach is automatically better.

Properties exposed to long periods of cold may also need prolonged cold pavement management between snowfall events. Packed snow, residual moisture, drifting, and changing traction can require attention even when a new accumulation threshold has not been reached.
