Tips on using Plasma Cutter

Industry apparatus are mostly built of steel and other such metals. Obviously such metals are made after a lot of cutting, fusing and welding. Plasma cutting is the methods used for cutting such metals. The process uses a noble gas or an inert gas and compressed air beyond a particular value. This high pressure air blowing from the nozzle is directed towards the metal surface in question. At the same time, an electric arc is being built up between the metal surface and the inert gas nozzle. This causes the gas in the interim zone to convert to plasma. Plasma is very hot and hence it easily melts the metal. At the same time, it is also very fast and hence drives the molten metal away with ease.

Plasma can be very harmful. It can turn the skin to charred flames. This is why it becomes very important to wear a protective gear. While the welding helmets and welding gloves can safeguard the skin and face from the heat, welding mask can cut down on any problems caused due to poisoning. The reaction of metal with plasma causes production of some poisonous gas at times. Though the poison content may be marginal, it can still cause a lot of respiratory issues in along run. Thus it is always better to be protected. Protective clothing while using these high-pressure torch bodies is paramount.

Fuel gases and oxygen can also be used for cutting metals. Though oxy-acetylene welding is not applied in industrial processes a lot, it is considered ideal for cutting pipes and tubes. Oxy-acetylene welding is not only cut out for iron welding. It is perfectly suited for braze-welding and metal heating as well. Oxy-acetylene welding causes two different metal pieces to bind after the creation of some shared pool of metal in the interim space. Oxy-acetylene welders have two tanks and thus make the task of welding and cutting equally easier.

Oxy acetylene flame is used for glass industry, jewelry making industry, a stone work, artifact making, sculpture making among other uses. Two pressure regulators and a couple of flexible hoses are all that may be required. Acetylene is the primary fuel which comes in specially designed cylinders packed with porous materials.

TIG welding or Tungsten Inert Gas welding is a highly effective process. It also creates an electric art between the welded object and tungsten. The tungsten on offer is non-consumable. Tungsten is protected from oxidizing rapidly by the presence of an inert gas. Argon is the most popular choice in TIG welding. It is considered great as it does not create slag which is so detrimental for the flux. Welding heat produced by TIG welding creates a constricted heat zone which guards against cracking and distortion of welded metal. Torch body for TIG welding is quite small. This replicates a pencil and hence it is easy to be used and can let you weld precisely.

MIG welding or Metal Inert Gas welding uses a consumable electrode. It causes spatter and there is also slag. This dilutes the flux and the spatter makes viewing difficult for the operator. The wire made by MIG welding is tougher than TIG welding and is hence more difficult to be hammered.

Today, many plasma cutter brands are floating in the market. Esab, Thermadyne, Hypertherm, Lincoln Electric and Miller are doing pretty well. Miller Spectrum 625 Plasma Cutter uses Wind Funnel Technique for sifting the abrasive dust from the inner parts of the machine. It also effectively reduces voltage drops and requires 30 percent lesser current to work for identical ranges of cutting. It amply increases work area of an operator by incorporating extension cords. Today, it is used for maintenance, auto body, prototyping and fabrication.
