Massage Chair Key Buying Considerations
When looking to buy a massage chair the first thing to compare is the back massage funtion. This is because the back massage is the most basic function of a massage chair. Other factors to consider in buying a massage chair include other massage areas and functions, available adjustments, comfort, layers of padding and settings management.
What separates massage functions of the backrest is the range of available motions. Kneading, rolling, and tapping or percussion are the main massage functions in the backrest. Basic chairs usually will offer these functions at the minimum, and high-end chairs offer combination’s of these functions.
Other areas of the body are massaged through the use of air bags. Air bags inflate and deflate to create the sensation of a hands applying and releasing pressure. Usually massage chairs will use air bags to work the lower back, arms, and legs. This is a feature of slightly more sophisticated chairs than your budget massage chair. Some chairs can create a rolling massage by the sequencing of air bag inflations and deflations.
An important factor to consider is the range of adjustments allowed. It is especially important for people who are too short or too tall for the average chair build. For shorter people, the back massage roller needs to be set to start at a lower position or else it will begin to massage the head when it should start at the upper back. Some high end chairs can automatically make adjustments by detecting the height of the user. As for the massage itself, speed and intensity are very individual preferences and affects the comfort of a massage session.
One of the biggest oversights in some massage chair design is comfort. The chair may be designed to give great massages but do not make great chairs just for sitting. Many people like to use their massage chairs are lounge chairs as well and the chairs need to at least have the proper padding to be comfortable.
That brings us to the next factor which is the removable layers of padding. Massage intensity can be controlled just by adding layers, to lower the intensity, or removing layers, to increase the intensity. Also, more padding flexibility means more likely the user will find a desirable level of cushion for optimal comfort.
When checking the controller of the massage chair, there should be a display that is easy to read and the buttons make it easy to use. The best displays are LCD screens that show what massages are set to be performed and what part of the body it is targeting.
The last and least important factor is the extra features the massage chair offers. Sometimes it can feel like the extras are just another way to ask for a premium on an otherwise basic chair. In many cases that is true. They range from seat heaters, built in speakers, and even television screens or radio. Obviously not critical but are a nice option for people with extra money to burn.
